What Cass County VINELink Covers
Cass County runs its own IowaVINE deployment, tagged siteId=16000, and the sheriff links to it straight from the county page. That beats a generic national portal. The Iowa Attorney General's IowaVINE page describes a free, anonymous service open by phone and internet at all hours. Participating Iowa county jails and state prisons are included.
It reports custody events. Someone was booked, released, transferred, or, rarely, escaped or died. What appears depends on the agency feeding the system. VINELink offers no booking-photo gallery and no full arrest history. The IowaVINE information page explains statewide custody search and registration.

Trust the state's own definition over third-party summaries.
Search Cass County Custody
Open the county deployment from the sheriff page or head straight to Cass County VINELink. The interface changes over time. Pick Iowa and Cass County when asked. Fill in whatever name or ID fields the screen offers instead of guessing a person-specific URL.
- Choose Iowa and confirm that the search is within the correct custody system.
- Enter the person’s name or identifier as precisely as possible.
- Review possible matches and compare identifiers rather than relying on name alone.
- Open the selected custody record and read its current status, facility, and available event details.
- If no result appears, check spelling and jurisdiction, then call IowaVINE or Cass County Jail.
No result does not mean no arrest. A brief hold may never reach VINE. The booking may still be processing. The person could also sit in another county, a state facility, or a federal system. The Cass County recent-arrest sources page sorts out the roster, booking record, court record, and alert roles, and the matching Cass deployment shows the VINE entry point.

That site identifier keeps the route pinned to Cass County.
Cass VINELink Result Fields
Treat each result as a live status. It is not the sheriff's dated roster. It also won't replace the arresting agency's report or Iowa Courts Online, which answer different questions.
| Result information | What it can tell you |
|---|---|
| Name or identifying data | Helps distinguish possible matches in the selected system. |
| Custody status | The status presently supplied through VINE. |
| Facility | The participating jail or prison associated with the record. |
| Offender or record ID | A system identifier that can improve later searches. |
| Custody event | A supported release, transfer, escape, or other status change. |
| Notification option | Registration methods currently offered for that record. |
"Booked" means processed into a jail record. "In custody" means held at the moment of the check. "Released" is an event, not a reason. Bond, a court order, or a transfer can all cause it. "Disposition" is the court's final result, and VINELink never supplies that judgment.
Register Cass County Custody Alerts
After locating the right record, pick the notification method the screen offers. Iowa lists phone, email, and text-style delivery. Registration covers future status messages only. It opens no private case file. Anyone may sign up, while victims' legal rights and agency duties stay separate.
- Select the correct person and custody record.
- Choose an offered contact method and enter the requested contact information.
- For telephone registration, select a PIN and keep it available.
- Complete any confirmation requested by the current interface.
- When a call arrives, enter the PIN to confirm receipt and stop repeat calls for that event.
Phone calls keep coming until a PIN is entered or the 24-hour attempt window ends. Voicemail counts. Attempts continue after a message is left. Iowa Code §915.16 makes local jails notify registered victims of certain release, escape, or transfer events. Those victim provisions are narrower than VINE's open registration.
Cass County's Direct VINE Connection
Cass County links straight to its own deployment. Most counties dump readers on a national landing page. Start with the county route. If it redirects, the general VINELink entry page still lets you pick Iowa and continue. The VINELink landing page also provides the broader state-selection route.

Use the broad entry only when needed. Then confirm Iowa and Cass County before trusting any match. Cass County also posts a dated jail roster and sheriff press releases. Neither sends automatic release notices. County emergency alerts handle public-safety messaging, and the sheriff lists no jail booking app.
Confirm a Fresh Cass Arrest
VINE can lag behind a new booking. For a same-day arrest, compare the Cass County 24 Hour Arrests page. Call the jail when timing matters. The sheriff's PDF carries its own print date and can lag too, so two empty screens still don't rule out the arrest.

Ask only what the jail may lawfully confirm. Want a booking record or a releasable photo? Send a narrow Chapter 22 request to the holding agency. For case outcomes, use Iowa Courts Online or call the Cass County Clerk.
VINELink Limits Beyond Cass County
IowaVINE covers Iowa county jails and state prisons. That's it. It is not the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator, a Marshals roster, or the ICE detainee locator. A federal detainee can board in a local jail. So pick the system by custody type, not by where the arrest happened.
| Custody question | Correct starting point |
|---|---|
| Cass County jail status | Cass County VINELink, then the jail |
| Iowa prison or supervision | IowaVINE and Iowa DOC offender search |
| Federal prison | BOP Inmate Locator |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator |
| Court outcome | Iowa Courts Online and Cass County Clerk |
A transfer changes who holds the record. Keep the VINE identifier and the facility name it shows, then follow the receiving system for Cass County arrest updates after the move. The new custodian controls the booking and custody status from that point forward.
Note: VINE alerts help with awareness, but urgent safety concerns belong with 911 or the responsible law-enforcement agency.
